How does it work and when do you need to apply it?

Answer:
Mineral nutrients through a large array of metabolic pathways effect the animal productive capacity. For example, low cobalt prevents microbial cell division in the rumen resulting in ill-thrift. The cobalt proteinates in TNN Mineral Plus enhance microbial cell division, and the increased proliferation of microbes means greater ruminal food digestion efficiency, especially the cellulose breakdown into glucose, providing greater energy and protein input and thus greatly increases animal production levels. TNN MINERAL PLUS can be administered anytime you handle your livestock. Although, the following times are suggested:

  • pre-lambing
  • prior to calving
  • at weaning
  • prior to joining
  • prior to feed change
  • during feed shortages
  • early Spring and early Autumn
  • when food is nutritionally poor

How long will TNN Mineral Plus work for and are there any withholding periods?

Answer:
For severe deficiencies of one or more micronutrients every six weeks, and for moderate deficiencies every eight weeks. No withholding periods are required with TNN Mineral Plus. The organically chelated micronutrients instantly convert to microbial proteins, or are absorbed in the rumen, abomasum, small intestines or duodenum. Mineral Plus will remain in the liver of sheep for 85 days.

How should TNN Mineral Plus be handled and stored?

Answer:
Normal precautions should be taken during application to avoid eye contact (read label for details). Store below 40 Degrees in the closed original container in a ventilated area. Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight and shake well before use.

What about high-producing dairy cows and TNN Mineral Plus?

Answer:
These animals have high feed intake and are often fed higher levels of grain supplements. Demands on their body reserve for minerals are higher and extra insurance must be taken when fortifying dietary minerals with TNN Mineral Plus.

What are the indications for TNN Mineral Plus and how are they determined?

Answer:
Inefficient responses to supplementary feeding points to deficiencies or imbalances of micronutrients, also they compromise production and reproduction. Forages are typically low in zinc, cobalt, selenium and copper. Micronutrient deficiencies are best assessed from animal parameters rather than dietary parameters. It can be determined from blood serum levels, specific tissue levels or enzyme activity levels. Ill thrift, poor condition and rough coats are often symptoms of mineral deficiency.

Why are dietary trace minerals not sufficient?

Answer:
Estimates of bio-availability of trace elements vary greatly from as little as 1% to as much as 30%. Trace minerals ionise in the gastro-intestinal contents, and are reactive with negating substances. Trace mineral adequacy is difficult to ensure when the only sources are base materials and inorganic supplements. When production efficiency is modest or specific problems recur frequently, it is most important to take some insurance by supplying TNN Mineral Plus in organic form.

Why don't mineral salts work?

Answer:
The reason for this is that the mineral elements are directly antagonistic to each other and in the inorganic salt form also have diverse absorption antagonists (such as phytates, oxalates, phosphates, sulphides and various fibre fractions). Specific minerals compete for the same absorption pathways and hence an excess of one mineral can impede uptake of others (ie competition between zinc-calcium, iron, phosphorous-sulphur, selenium-sulphur and copper-molybdenum).

TNN Mineral Plus is an organically chelated trace mineral complex, specifically formulated for maximum bio-availability. It contains all the micronutrients necessary for the mineral requirement of ruminants in a protected form of mineral proteinates, amino acids and organic acids.
